
Walking
There are many interesting walks nearby, following public footpaths or country lanes, with St Thomas's Church being within walking distance. For the more adventurous, the Lakeland fells will give you the opportunity to test your fell walking and agility skills and witness some stunning and spectacular scenery. A good guide book is an advantage as they give planned walks and directions. Please remember the country code and close all gates and keep dogs on leads when going over farm land.
Cycling
There are numerous cycle routes in the area, some pre-planned for you or you may prefer to take to the country lanes and plan your own route. There are opportunities to take mountain bikes off-road onto fields and forest tracks. Your own cycles can be stored at the farm. Cycle hire is available nearby.
Pony Trekking
There are several riding and trekking stables nearby where you can learn to ride or improve your skills or you may wish to trek in the local countryside.
Water Activities
Lake Windermere offers the largest selection of water activities from speed boats and water skiing to rowing boats, aswell as lake cruises. You can view the Steamboat Centre on the shore of Lake Windermere. Fishing is possible in some lakes and rivers – please note that a local fishing licence may however be required.
Historic Houses and Castles
There is an array of historic houses and castles within easy reach, each offering spectacular architecture and design. Many were homes to famous authors or distinguished people, with some houses still lived in by their families. You can view the house and contents of many. Take a look at these examples found locally: Holker Hall, Levens Hall and Muncaster Castle.
Gardens
If you like looking around gardens you will not be disappointed as there are many to look at, aswell as many interesting garden centres
Museums
Museums and galleries are all on view locally. Some museums specialise in local collections and way of life. Art galleries are also on view.
Golfing
If you fancy a round of golf while on holiday, there are many courses to test your skills on – from 9 hole to 18 hole golf courses or a golf driving range. You may have to pre-book on some courses.
Sporting Facilities
Swimming, badminton, squash, table tennis, bowls, tennis and football are all on offer locally. Kendal also has a Leisure Centre.
General
You can enjoy a visit to South Lakes Animal Park or Ostrich World. Take a journey on Little Ratty or look around the Reghed Visitors Centre. You can take a look underground at White Scar Caves and not to be missed is a visit to the Beatrix Potter house and exhibitions.
